Nellie the Journalist Fox

Emergolde

Regular price $75.00
This Fox doll is part of our new adventurers series, featuring designs that celebrate courage female adventurers from the past. This Nellie is based on Nellie Bly, who was one of the first investigative and undercover reporters. One of the first muckrakers, she earned acclaim in 1887 for her undercover work that exposed the conditions of the insane asylum at Blackwell’s Island. She went on to create more waves by traveling around the world in a record breaking 72 days. Nellie Bly was bold and independent in a time when a woman’s role in society was restrictively narrow. One of my favorite quotes of her is: ““I've always had the feeling that nothing is impossible is one applies a certain amount of energy in the right direction. If you want to do it, you can do it.”

Nellie is 20" tall, made with organic cotton fabric that has been hand-dyed, and comes with a hand-dyed organic skirt and blouse with vintage lace details, a recycled wool fabric trenchcoat, and felt boots. All of her clothes can be removed. Nellie is stuffed with polyfiberfill and her features are embroidered. Nellie has buttons, so she should only go to a little one who has learned not to eat his toys :-) Gently hand-wash if necessary.

Nellie will come in a hand-stamped cloth bag, ready to make the perfect gift for any adventurer!
